A Survival Axe with replaceable handle
and integral ice chisel.

Juan Pablo Quiñonez, approached me in early summer of 2021. He told me he was getting ready to go on a survival adventure and needed a custom survival tool; similar to my PAXE, but with an ice chisel on the top of the axe instead of a shovel point. He was convinced that if there was ice fishing involved in his adventure, that this tool could be a significant advantage over just an axe; (in time and energy savings it takes to cut holes in the thick ice).

I said sure I would be happy to make you a custom PAXE. So, over a couple weeks JP and I collaborated until we came up with a design worthy of being prototyped. The prototype was finished just days before he was to leave on his adventure, and so it went directly into real and meaningful testing, (I later learned, his survival adventure was the survival TV show called ALONE on the History Channel).

Juan Pablo told me that the JP PAXE worked well on his ALONE journey and and he believes it is the ultimate northern forest survival axe! Panacea X will be producing the JP PAXE and offering it for sale this fall of 2022, so please check back, and we will keep you posted!
