FireFly© Tanto Grind - High flat grind with micro bevel, PVD coating.
FireFly© Tanto Grind - High flat grind with micro bevel, PVD coating.
The FireFly© is a mini survival knife machined from a solid bar of D2 tool steel and then hardened to 58c to 60c Rockwell. “Never Fail” construction; one piece blade and handle. “I designed this knife to be worn like jewelry, so it would always be with you, they say ‘the best survival knife is the one you have with you’”.
Beautifully machined and accented with precision drill work on the hilt and spine. The spine on the FireFly© is ground to a 90 degree sharp edge, so that the spine can be used as a ferro rod scraper/striker, and thus conserving the primary edge for other cutting tasks.
The blade is slightly less than 2”long so it can be legally concealed, (worn under your clothing), in most states. Please check local and state laws.
The FireFly was designed with these four main functions in mind. One, a small handy utility knife available quickly and easily from its neck work sheath. Two, it is designed to be able to easily make fire; with its integral Ferro rod. Three, its’ hollow handle can be used as a signaling whistle! Four, the diamond knurling on the handle can be used as a wood file; for various Bushcraft needs.
The FireFly©, has been extensively tested in many extreme environments!
Limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects in material or workmanship.

Hierarchy of FireFly© knives.
Bottom: Original FireFly© prototype manually machined and hand ground from O1 tool steel, by Rob Weir. Note: original is similar to current production FireFly© with modified Tanto shape, a high Scandi grind and protective coating applied after it was ground.
Second from bottom: Gen. 1 FireFly© note low Scandi grind,
O1 tool Steel. Note unprotected bevel is beginning to corrode.
Third from Bottom: Rob’s Every Day Carry Gen. 1 test knife. Note, Rob’s FireFly was custom ground to be a full flat Scandi grind. This enables the knife to have a finer edge and carve wood better. But it also weakens the blade. This grind also removes all the protective black oxide coating; so it corrodes much more easily. Especially when exposed to salt water as this one was, on a Baja sea-kayaking adventure 2017.
Top: Current production FireFly© black oxide plated after it is high Scandi ground, then the final sharpening is done by polishing the edge.
